I am hoping that we can avoid a Reinstall (the only way to get Messages again) but I do feel the issue look a little deeper. Use the App Menu > Restore Standard Fonts Open Font Boot (not any other Manager you may have) The second does nothing for iMessages in Messages. Mean you Signed Out in the iMessages account or that you Signed out in System Preferences > iCloud ?
I also tried logging out of my icloud account, then logging back in.
You may have either a or ID that can be used with the same password for most things. These can be older ones issued by Apple but linked and At the change over to iCloud some IDs were also issued for a while before they started with can also be external emails such as Google, Yahoo, AOL to name some common ones that have been linked. ICloud IDs are Apple IDs linked to iCloud. Messages uses an Apple ID in Messages from the iMessages account but just to catch everyone out it does have to be iCloud valid. Mostly a limited set of app items that you can sync such as Contacts, Mail, Calendars and so on.ĭOES NOT include iTunes, FaceTime, Messages, iBooks, App Store, Games Center or the iMessages account of Messages. The stuff seen at when you login and also in System Preferences > iCloud. Text Field (along with other logged in accounts in this case) showing Google as the Account in use. Apple does not provide a way to uninstall and reinstall Messages (at least not to mere mortal users).Īny suggestions would be most appreciated!
The normal generic fixes have been tried so far: booting in safe mode (Messages does not operate at all), flashing the boot PROM, disabling and re-enabling the iCloud account in Messages. Only the icloud and Bonjour clients are enabled. iOS message clients on iPhone and iPad, signed into the same icloud account, work normally.Ħ. The popup alert that comes in from the right of the screen showing text of a new message works, and clicking on the reply button there also works and handles a reply normally.ĥ. The red alert showing number of unread messages on the icon in the toolbar operates normallyĤ. In the main window, the message text editor window does not open, whether originating a new message, or replying to an existing one.ģ. Opening the app opens the main messages window, but messages only appear sporadically in the list on the left, and cannot be opened to.Ģ. Since the OS X 10.12.3 update, the Messages app has been broken - but only partially.
